3. Plug in your Equipment

Please note. CMV has a wide array of hardware. With this in mind, this guide has been written as a general guide. It will touch on some specifics with some setups as to some common 'gotch yas'.

Top 5 Hints for Moving a PC Before You Move a PC

  1. Take pictures of the plugs or even just label them. If you're not comfortable with recognising cable ends, take some pictures or even just label them.

  2. Turn everything off at the wall. GRacefully shut down your system and flick off the power and then start unplugging.

  3. Make sure you have enough power points. Rember that large devices like monitors and PC's have individual power cables.

  4. Cables can only go in one way and into their specific socket. Please do not force anything.

  5. On first powering on, USB devices can take a little time to detect. Give them a minute or so

Dell OptiFlex

Common Things to watch out for:

  • It is not uncommon for the 2 Dell screens to run in a "daisy chain" configuration where one screen directly gets its signal from another screen via a cable. We do this for neater desk setup. For this setup, it does not matter which output from the PC you use, but the cable on the monitors are specific. This configuration can be identified easily as there will only be one display port cable coming out but you will have 2 screens. Daisy chaining is only available on the Dell screens.

Black Box

Common Things to watch out for:

  • These PC's do not have wireless. They will require a network cable connection.

  • If you are using these older style boxes and the newer style Dell monitors, you are more than likely using adaptor cables. Please do not forgot to grab them
